Down Care Guide

Caring for Your Down Bedding

Luxury down bedding is designed to provide years of comfort when cared for properly. While washing is relatively simple, proper drying is the single most important step in maintaining the loft, freshness, and performance of your pillow or comforter.

Many people believe washing is the difficult part—it's not.

Drying is what matters most.

Washing Your Down Pillow or Comforter

Use a front-loading washing machine whenever possible. Wash on a gentle cycle with cold or warm water and a small amount of mild detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and harsh chemicals. When washing pillows, wash two together when possible to help balance the machine.

The Most Important Step: Drying

Down must be completely dry before use or storage. Even when the outer fabric feels dry, moisture may still remain inside the fill.

If down is not dried completely, it can clump together and develop an unpleasant odor. Drying may take several hours, which is completely normal.

Tumble dry on low heat and add clean dryer balls to help separate the down and restore loft. Pause occasionally to fluff the bedding by hand, then continue drying until it feels light, fluffy, and completely dry throughout.

If you are unsure whether it is dry, keep drying.

Restoring Loft

Fluff pillows daily and shake comforters regularly to redistribute the fill. Allow your bedding to air out occasionally in a dry, well-ventilated room.

Storage

Store down bedding in a cool, dry place. Avoid airtight plastic bags, which can trap moisture. A breathable cotton storage bag is best for long-term storage.
